Meet Mateo Garcia, a dedicated Primary Therapist with a robust background in mental health and addiction counseling. Holding a Bachelor’s in Counseling Psychology from the University of Valley Force and a Master’s in Human Sexuality Education from Widener University. Mateo is currently completing a Master’s of Social Work from Walden University, scheduled May 2024 for graduation. Additionally, he is an LCADC Intern striving to obtain his New Jersey licensure as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol & Drug Counselor.
Mateo’s journey in mental health began in 2012, initially focusing on behavior and sexuality consulting for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Transitioning into crisis intervention, he spent five years working with both children and adults before discovering his passion for addiction counseling. With a diverse range of experiences, Mateo employs various modalities to support his clients in achieving positive outcomes.
Driven by a deep commitment to aiding individuals in navigating life’s challenges and instilling hope in seemingly hopeless situations, Mateo approaches therapy with empathy and understanding. As a member of the LGBT community, he is particularly attuned to issues of inclusivity and the intersection between addiction and sexuality. His aim is to bridge this gap, reducing stigma and empowering clients to embrace their identities fully.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Mateo enjoys indulging in true crime podcasts and documentaries. As a dog dad to Holden, named after his favorite book “The Catcher in the Rye,” Mateo finds solace in reading and cherishes moments spent with his furry companion.
